What is Content Management?

Nearly every client I have ever had has asked for one thing in our initial consultation: I want to be able to update the site myself.

In days gone by, the only way to make a change to a website was to have the person or company who created your site make changes to the static HTML page, and upload those changes to the server. The wait was often days or weeks, and the cost was often several hundred dollars.

No more. Content Management is literally what is says - managing the content of your site. You should have the tools provided to you to enable you to log on to a simple graphic interface (a control panel) and open up the page you wish to edit, make your changes, and click "save". A web-based content management system allows you to edit your site from an where, at any time.

How Does CJT Digital Use Content Management?

1. Custom Design/Commercial CMS:

This means that we will create a completely customized, independent website for you from scratch - the look, feel and functionality is built from the ground up to your exact specifications. From there, we add the control panel and the code to allow you to edit specific parts of your site, namely, text, photos, and news. The content management system interacts with the front end of the website in a seamless way, so that you are easily able to update your site whenever you want.

2. Commercial CMS Only:

This means that the Content Management system is installed as a complete packe, including the back-end (the control panel)  and the front-end (the website itself). Essentially, this means that we use the design templates that come prepackaged with the CMS system and customize the look and feel to meet your needs. This is slightly less expensive, as we're merely customizing existing templates rather than creating code from scratch. The drawback here is that there is much less control over the search engine optimization of the site. If SEO is a priority, then Option #1 is the choice for you.

3. eCommerce Sites:

eCommerce websitesare essentially content management systems within themselves. If you are opening an on-line store, we will install a fully functional system that will allow you to not only edit and update content of the site, but fully manage every aspect of your store from products, prices, shipping costs, font size and color, the works.

Can you add a CMS to my existing website?

Yes!
If you have a website that you are happy with design-wise but cannot edit yourself, we can easily convert the site to a content-management system. We take the content, (i.e. text, links, photos, etc) and plug them into a database, add the control panel, do some code tweaking, and voila, you can now edit all of your content while your design remains in tact.
